Matthew Thornton Holds Annual Veterans Ceremony

The staff at Matthew Thornton Elementary School invited veterans with ties to the students of staff members to visit for a recognition ceremony. Students and teachers assembled in the gym where the vets were greeted with applause, songs, and a brief history of those being recognized. First grade students sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag”; Second Grade, “This Land is Your Land”; Third Grade, “God Bless America”; Fourth Grade, “America the Beautiful”; and fifth graders sang “My Country Tis of Thee”. The Pledge of Allegiance was delivered by members of Boy Scout Troop 901. First year Principal, Abbey Slopper, led things off with a welcoming message and Assistant, Principal Scott Sicard, gave a brief history of the 96 veterans being recognized. Photos by Chris Paul
