Staff and students at Matthew Thornton Elementary School held a “Thank You For Your Service” Veterans Day Assembly on Thursday, Nov. 10 and welcomed a number of local veterans with ties to the school or its students. Members of Cub Scout Troop 901 led the guests to their seat and each grade sang patriotic songs. First grade students sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag;” second graders sang “This Land is Your Land;” Third graders sang “God Bless America;” fourth graders sang “America the Beautiful;” and fifth graders sang “My Country Tis of Thee.” Over 70 veterans with ties to the school were recognized by Assistant Principal Scott Sicard during the ceremony.
