Mike Maluguti, the Assistant Town Solicitor for the Town of Londonderry, was appointed as the Acting Town Manager at a recent Town Council meeting after Kevin Smith resigned in order to pursue his campaign for the United States Senate full-time.
The Town Council approved the resignation of Smith during the Monday night, Feb. along with appointing Maluguti to the position for 120 days.
“I am humbled that the Town Council has entrusted me with the duties of Town Manager on an acting basis. In this capacity, I will devote all my energy to implementing the Town Council’s policy objectives and delivering the services residents have come to expect,” said Maluguti.
Maluguti a Andover Massachusetts native currently lives in Pelham New Hampshire with his wife Catherine along with their two dogs.
He is a graduate of Merrimack College, and the University New Hampshire School of Law, where he graduated in 2011.
When asked what he plans on focusing on during his 120 days as Acting Town Manager Malaguti said “I intend to emphasize transparency, explaining as much as possible what town government does, and why we are doing it, while at the same time making it easier for the public to access information about our work. My personal approach to any big task, such as the one before me, is to start by doing more listening than talking, and then to act carefully and deliberately toward improvements and solutions.”
“In my prior role, and in my first week as Acting Town Manager, I’ve spent a lot of time speaking directly with residents about their concerns. What I’ve heard is that residents prioritize fiscal restraint over almost everything else,” said Malaguti. “People don’t mind spending money, but it should be for only the most necessary of purposes. We have a fine tradition in New Hampshire of government being helpful and responsive, but still having a light touch. I intend to be a good steward of this tradition. Lastly, in my discussions with residents, I’ve heard a lot of concern about water quality. This is a huge issue for Londonderry, one I’ve been heavily involved with in my prior role, and there are a lot of different possible solutions. Water quality will be a focus of my time as Acting Town Manager.”
Prior to becoming the acting Town Manager, Malaguti served as the prosecutor for the Londonderry Police Department.
Before working in Londonderry he was in private practice with the law firm Ransmeier & Spellman in Concord New Hampshire where he had a general practice with an emphasis on civil litigation.
