Paving Project on Litchfield Road Continues to October

According to Londonderry Public Works Director Janusz Czyzowski, the section of Litchfield Road to Yellowstone Road will be paved this summer.

“Right now we are concentrating on building the third phase of Litchfield Road from High Range Road all the way to Yellowstone Road, the first intersection of Yellowstone,” he said this week. “It is approximately 4,300 linear feet of road that we want to reconstuct. It is very similar to what we did in the first and second phase. We are going to be grinding the road, replacing some of the unsuitable materials, replacing the culverts, clearing up the shoulders and repaving the road. That’s the plan for the summer.”

Czyzowski said the project should last at least until the end of October.

“The closure of the road is only going to be on a temporary basis because there’s not an easy detour,” he explained. “The other phases had easier detours. This one we would have to send everyone over to Brown Avenue. So we will keep one lane open, but sometimes the traffic will be held for a few minutes when we are crossing with the pipe and so on so.”

He encourages drivers to use alternate routes.

While the Litchfield Road project is his department’s main focus this summer, crews will also be shimming and overlaying various roads in town.

“That’s more or less routine,” he said. “Gilcreast will be one of them, the section near South Road and the section by Sugarplum.”
