Robert McClure

Robert William McClure (Bob), 85, of Londonderry, NH, passed away suddenly on Wednesday Aug. 29, 2018. He was born in Buffalo, NY, the son of William S. and Ann (MacVittie) McClure, and prior to moving to Londonderry in 2016, lived for over 50 years in Wilmington, DE. Bob graduated from the University of Buffalo and later received his Master’s Degree of Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force, discharged from the Reserves in 1970 as a Captain. Bob worked as an electrical engineer and senior consultant in DuPont’s Engineering Physics Research Laboratory for 30 years. He served as President of the Delaware Association of Professional engineers and as Vice President of the National Society of Professional Engineers and was a member of the NCEES, IEEE and an evaluator for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, ABET. Through these organizations he was involved with the licensure examinations for Professional Engineers and the accreditation of Engineering Colleges and Universities. Bob received several awards for his contributions to the engineering profession including Delaware Professional Engineer of the Year. Bob was a devoted family man and an avid golfer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joan Y. (Dey) McClure of Londonderry, his son, William McClure and wife Diana Lynn of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Zephyrhills, FL; his daughter, Barbara Schechinger and husband Paul of Londonderry; two granddaughters, Lauren Schechinger of Somerville, MA, and Anna Guastella and husband Rob of Clinton, MA; a brother, Jerry McClure and wife Terry of Captiva, FL; brother-in law, George Dey and wife Marilyn of Amherst, NY, as well as nieces Debbie (Dave) Shultz, Deanna (John) Weinholtz, Carol (Peter) Greenwood, Beth (Tori) Dawson and nephews Jim McClure and Steve (Pat) McClure.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry.
