Roger Baylies Higgins, 88, passed away April 6, 2018 at Presidential Oaks in Concord. He was born on March 28, 1930 in Arlington, MA, a son of the late Wilmer and Nettie (Stevens) Higgins. Roger was a resident of Londonderry, for about 50 years. He moved with his mother, Nettie S. Higgins, from his brother’s home in Quincy MA in Aug. of 1956. Roger loved to hike and in his younger days traveled the American West and the Cascades. He also had an interest in engineering and electronics. Before moving to NH, Roger worked in the television business his brother Roy established functioning as Roy’s hands. He also learned PC board work from his brother as “Roy had figured it out and there were no schools for it at the time.” Roger went on to work for Sanders, a defense contractor in Nashua for many years as well as Bell Labs.
Roger remained unmarried. In his last days Roger was surrounded by nieces and nephews; Marjorie, Susan, Bradley and Roy. Roger’s devoted grandnephew, Christopher H. Barrett, steadfastly remained by Roger’s bedside upon arrival from Washington state. Roger was close to Christopher. Upon learning of Christopher’s goal to work in computer gaming, Roger enjoyed introducing Chris to Ralph Baer, the “father of video games” at Ralphs home in Manchester.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Lorraine Higgins, nieces and nephews, Susan J. Higgins, David M. Higgins, Roy A. Higgins and his wife Lisa, Donald I. Higgins Jr. his wife Jean C. Malpass, Marjorie A. Mickle and Bradley D. Higgins, grandnieces and grandnephews, Christopher H. Barrett, Timothy and Matthew Higgins, Kelley D. Higgins, Sarah E. (Mickle) Power, Matthew S. Mickle, Valerie A. and Rachel L. Higgins. Roger is predeceased by his brother Leroy W. Higgins, Roy’s wife Jean and brother Donald I. Higgins.
There are no calling hours. A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the Westridge Cemetery, Charlton, MA.
