During the April 1 Town Council meeting, members of the community spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting about traffic concerns in town.
“I’m here to talk about traffic safety concerns on Route 102,” resident, Timothy Cerato, said during the meeting.
He explained that about three months ago himself and neighbors went to their first Traffic Safety Committee meeting to talk about the “escalating dangers” of the traffic on the road.
“Tragically the day following that meeting there was a fatal accident on 102,” he said.
He explained that he wants to know if there is anything they can do, including having a special committee, saying he doesn’t think having a meeting every three months gives people in the community the ability to help as much as they want to.
Cerato stated that he would be willing to help in any way he can.
Also during the meeting, the Town Council was asked to approve an expenditure from the Maintenance Trust Fund.
Director of Public Works, Dave Wholley, explained that the fire panel at the Library was installed in 1997 when the Library was expanded.
“That puts it at about 27 years old,” he said.
He explained that they have been having trouble with it having false alarms, and that parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find and replace in a timely manner.
Wholley said they solicited bids and received three quotes with the lowest one being $7,331.03.
The Town Council unanimously approved the request.
