The Greater Derry Track Club/Mack’s Apples 5K Cross-Country Road Race, run through Mack’s Moose Hill orchards off Pillsbury Road, has long been held under the direction of Greater Derry Track Club (GDTC), co-founding member Eldon Burkinshaw said.
This year the race will take place on Sunday, Aug. 24, at 5 p.m. The 2013 race had more than 40 more finishers than the 2012 event had, with 114 total finishers following the victorious Josh Grant – a 22-year-old Nashua resident – across the finish line. Grant won the 2013 event with a speedy time of 15 minutes and 25 seconds.
Londonderry teen Kalin Gregoire defended her 2012 female title by finishing in 19:48, putting her ninth overall. If she competes this year, she will be seeking her third consecutive win.
Pre-registration information can be obtained on-line at http://www.gdtc.org/, and the pre-registration fee is $15. Registration on event day will begin at 4 p.m. at Mack’s Apples on Route 128 at a charge of $15, and the charge for a family is $30, with a family considered two adults and an unlimited number of kids living at the same address.
Custom tank tops will go to the first 75 entrants, professional timing will be handled by New England Timing, awards will go to overall and age group winners, and the event always has an array of refreshments during the post-race period.
More information can be obtained at the GDTC website or by contacting race director Burkinshaw at 432-9805.
