Acting Town Manager William Hart said the search for a new fire chief to replace retiring Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie will begin soon. “Right now we have an acting fire chief in Battalion Chief Darren O’Brien, and in the next several weeks we’ll be looking to fill the position,” Hart said.
Fire Chief Kevin MacCaffrie, 62, announced his resignation Jan. 7.
His retirement is effective March 1.
At that time, Hart appointed Battalion Chief Darren O’Brien as acting fire chief effective March 1. O’Brien, a lifelong resident of Londonderry, joined the department at
theageof19.Hehas27 years of experience at the Londonderry Fire Department and has worked his way up through the ranks. O’Brien has said he was interested in being considered for the permanent position.
