Senior Center Back at Home

Londonderry seniors have been meeting at the Lions Hall since Nov. 25, when the Senior Center on Mammoth Road was closed for renovations and replacement of the roof.

Senior Affairs Director Catherine Blash said that last week’s storm delayed the reopening, but the center should be in full operation at its old home this week.

Blash said the improvements look wonderful, with new paint and carpet in place.

The replacement of a portion of the roof was finished ahead of schedule.

“It looks fantastic,” she said. “The weather cooperated, we only had a little rain. We moved everything back on Tuesday (Dec. 31) from the Lions Hall and we were supposed to reopen on Thursday (Jan. 2), but we got the snowstorm, and Friday was out too.”

Blash said Administrative Support Coordinator Steve Cotton, who oversaw the project, made small tables and shelves for the bathrooms.

“He used wood from the old trusses that were removed and did some of the work at home, and they came out beautiful. The new curtains are up and we can’t wait to get back in there,” Blash said.
