The Londonderry High School Cross-Country team had just two runners competing in last week’s New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Meet of Champions (MOCs), but those two participants were able to place in the top five spots of all the Granite State runners.
Londonderry seniors, Ryan Fortin and Sean Clegg, finished second and third in the Division I State Championship at Derryfield Park in Manchester last week, allowing them to compete in the MOCs at Alvirne High School this past weekend, Saturday, Nov. 5.
In that 5K-Race, Fortin was able to finish in fourth place, with a time of 15:49.4. Clegg was just 21-seconds behind his teammate, with a time of 15:51.6, and finished in fifth-place.
Fortin’s time was about 15-seconds faster than his second place time at Derryfield, which is a very tough, hilly course.
The winning race time was by Gilford senior, Patrick Gandini, who finished with a time of 15:05.2.
Both Lancer runners qualified for New Englands taking place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, RI.
The top 25 finishers and the top six teams qualify for that race.
