The Londonderry High School Girls’ Volleyball squad saw their winning streak end at 10 games on Thursday night against Bedford High School, but fans were also able to witness senior setter, Lexi Small, get her 1,000th assist in the first game of that match.
Small, who has been a varsity player all four years of her high school career, needed just seven assists to reach the millennium mark and did that by the time the score was 13-16 in the first set.
Unfortunitely for the team, that was the only real celebrating done in the battle against the only other undefeated team in Division I.
Coming into the game, the Bulldogs girls were 8-0 and the Lancers had a 10-0 record, and Bedford was able to outlast their host three games to one in the match.
Londonderry was able to battle Bedford tightly in three of the four sets, but ran out of steam in the final game. Sets scores were: 25-27, 21-25, 25-19 and 8-25.
Besides Small’s major milestone, other standouts were: Ally McGonagle, with 18 kills and five aces; Riley Campo had four blocks and four kills: and Lacey Turner came away with six kills and three digs.
Earlier in the week, the Lancers got their tenth victory with a with a straight set win at Alvirne High School.
Londonderry took those sets 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12.
McGonagle had 10 kills and three aces in the match. Small got 19 assists and three aces.
Shannon Ball and Riley Campo each had four kills in the match.
Londonderry will have another tough match this week. They will travel to Nashua on Friday night to face the Titans who have also only lost one match this season.
