Softball Squad Heads to Final Week with Spotless Record

The Londonderry High School Softball squad tallied four more victories last week to head into the final week of the season at 17-0.
In that stretch, they had wins over two tough opponents, getting a six-run shutout over the rival Pinkerton Academy and a 1-0 win at Concord High School.

The Lancers began the week with an expected one-sided victory over the Alvirne Broncos, who have just one win this season.
Londonderry had a slow start, but banged out nine-runs in the forth inning, leading to a 14-2 victory.
Abby Austen got the win, pitching five innings allowing just two hits and striking out eight.
Alison Chambers, Addison Martinez, Ginney Flaherty and Sadie Moore all had two hits with Chambers getting a lead-off home run in the third inning.
The following day, at home against the Astros, in a make-up game, Elizabeth Kearney had a near-perfect performance in the circle, going seven hitless innings, while striking out 17 batters and walking just one for the 6-0 win.
Kearny also helped the team at the plate, belting a grand slam in the sixth inning, putting up four insurance runs going into the final inning.
Austin supplied the other two RBIs in the big win, going three-for-four at the plate and helping to deliver the Astros their second loss of the season.
On Wednesday, May 21, Kearney had another stellar game, pitching a complete game, striking out 19 Crimson Tide batters and allowing just two hits for the slim 1-0 Lancer victory.
This was the small margin of victory all season for the league leading defending state champions.
The only run of the contest came in the second inning after a lead off walk by Flaherty, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Riley Campo. With one out, Mady Normand grounded to the pitcher to bring home the eventual game-winning run.
Londonderry batters were only able to get four hits off the tough Concord pitcher.
The Lancers finished the week with another dominant performance, handing the Purple Panthers their 12th loss of the season behind the arm of Austen.
Austen went seven innings, striking out 10, walking one and allowing five hits for the 12-1 victory.
Chambers had her second three-hit game of the week with two double. Kearney, Flaherty and Shannon Crowley also chalked up three hits.
Austen put up two doubles in the teams 17th win of the season.
The Lancers head into the final week of the regular season, after securing the number one seed in playoff, with a game against the Windham Jaguars (15-2) and finishing up a rain-delayed game against Bishop Guertin, where LHS was leading 10-2 in the top of the fifth.
