Split Of Decisions Leaves LHS Spikers’ Mark At 5-9

The Londonderry High girls’ volleyball squad’s recent woes continued with a 3-1 loss to the host Hollis-Brookline Lady Cavaliers on Wednesday, Oct. 8, but coach Dave Starin’s squad stopped its four-match skid at least temporarily with a shutout win on the road at the end of the week.

In the 3-1 loss to Hollis-Brookline, play started out well for the locals, who drove their way to a 25-21 win in set one to start out with a 1-0 match lead.

The host Lady Cavaliers came zipping back to snare lopsided victories of 25-15, 25-10, and 25-12 in sets two through four to bag the match win.

The Lady Lancers received seven kills from Madison Milton and six of them from Ally O’Neil in the disappointing defeat.

But disappointment didn’t come visiting Friday, Oct. 10, in Manchester when the visiting Londonderry crew did what it was supposed to against the winless Central Little Green spikers in that opponent’s home gym.

The Lady Lancers bagged the 3-0 whitewashing by taking decisive, individual set victories of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-10.

Milton was an absolute serving machine for the winning side, bagging 18 service points – with some 11 aces – and four kills. Kayla Koster was good for 12 service points with three aces, Ashley Andrews dealt out 10 assists, Shannon Sonia passed out seven of them, and Mariska Feenstra, Maggie Connors, and O’Neil each contributed six kills in the winning effort.
