The Londonderry High School Boys’ Tennis Team has come a long way since being all but dissolved back in 2020.
It’s been a four-year rebuild for the team greatly due to the efforts of former head coach, Roberta Davis, and current head coach, Alex Burbine.
This year’s team has really made a leap into the Division I standings as they currently sit in the sixth spot out of 17 teams.
Over the past two weeks, the Lancers have really excelled, mounting six consecutive victories and beating teams from Salem, Alvirne, Pinkerton Academy and three others by wide margins.
Most recently the Londonderry squad had decisive victories over Dover, Keene, and Spaulding High School.
Against the Green Wave, at Dover High School, on May 3, Londonderry swept their opponents in doubles and split their singles matches for a 6-3 win.
Singles wins came from: Neel Chakravarthy an 8-1 win in the #1 spot; Aidan Board had a 8-2 win at #4; and Logan Hunt won his match 8-6 at #5.
In Doubles, the teams of Chakravarthy/Board and Connor Lord/Jayden Wu had 8-4 victories and the team of Hunt/Devon Pacheco won 8-3.
Three days later, at home against the Keene Blackbirds, the Lancers added a singles win for 7-2 overall victory.
Londonderry swept again in doubles and took their singles matches 4-2.
Singles wins came from: Chakravarthy an 8-3 win in the #1 spot; Jayden Wu had a 8-4 win at #3; Hunt won his match 8-6 at #5; and Brady Follansbee added an 8-4 win.
In Doubles, the teams of Chakravarthy/Board and Lord/Jayden Wu had 8-6 victories and the team of Hunt/Pacheco won 8-0.
The LHS squad had its sixth consecutive team win when they traveled to Spaulding High School on Friday, May 10, shutting that team out 9-0.
Chakravarthy, Wu, Board, and Hunt all had 8-1 singles victories, while Lord had an 8-0 win and Follansbee tacked on a 8-5 win.
In Doubles, the teams of Chakravarthy/Board had an 8-6 win; and Lord/Wu were 8-0 winners; and the team of Hunt/Pacheco won 8-4.
The Lancers team is scheduled finish out the regular season with three matches this week and indications are they are certainly headed in the right direction, with lots of young talent.
