The memory of a beloved Londonderry High School guidance counselor, Kate Sherwood, will be honored during the Third Annual Kate Sherwood Foundation Walk-a-Thon at the LHS track on Sunday, May 7, starting at 11 p.m and ending at 2 p.m.
The event has been organized through the Kate Sherwood Foundation, the LHS Student Council, and Hannah Dailey, a LHS Student Council Advisor. The group is hoping for the event to be well attended this year.
Sherwood was remembered for her focus to help those in need and was a lifelong student, attaining two master’s degrees and working on her doctorate when she lost her battle with cancer.
According to the Kate Sherwood Foundation website, “Kate focused her career on building trauma-informed schools and passionately advocated for students who dealt with adversity in their lives. Kate’s life was cut short when she passed away unexpectedly in February of 2021. Sadly, Kate was unable to finish the important work to which she was so dedicated.”
Besides her students, Kate left her husband, Dougan, and sons, Ben and Henry.
She is remembered as an unforgettable and real life hero with a smile that felt like sunshine and made everything brighter. Whether you met her once or you had the distinct honor of knowing her for a lifetime, Kate treated everyone with love, compassion, and kindness. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, educator, mentor, dog lover, and true friend to many. A lifelong learner, with 2 master’s degrees and a doctorate in the works, Kate focused her career on building trauma-informed schools and passionately advocated for students who dealt with adversity in their lives. Kate’s life was cut short when she passed away unexpectedly in February of 2021. Sadly, Kate was unable to finish the important work to which she was so dedicated.
This event honors the mission of the late LHS guidance counselor, Mrs. Sherwood, by raising money for the Kate Sherwood Foundation, which provides high school students who have faced adversities with the appropriate support and resources.
This year’s walk theme is Hawaiian and participants are encouraged to wear their best luau attire and participate in walking and lawn games at the event. Raffle basket tickets, KSF t-shirts, and Kona Ice will be sold at the event. Bring your friends and family for a fun afternoon to support a wonderful organization.
According to the advisors, “It is a wonderful event to raise funds for an amazing cause, and we are hoping to spread the word to as many Londonderry community members as possible so that they can attend the event.”
