Two Injured in Interstate Rollover

According to Londonderry Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Roger, a car with two occupants rolled over and the occupants were ejected at about 9:30 p.m. Monday on Interstate 93.

He said the rollover occurred in the southbound lane of I-93 north of exit 4. “The car had been traveling in the high speed lane, rolled over and hit the rock ledges, and I heard from bystanders that it rolled twice and both of the occupants were ejected,” Roger said. “The driver landed in the high speed lane and the other gentleman landed on the side of the road.”

Roger said the driver was injured the most critically, with life-threatening injuries, and the passenger had lesser injuries to the neck and back and possibly orthopedic injuries.

When crews arrived on scene, they said it appeared both occupants had been ejected through the roof, which is removable on the vehicle.

“The call went extremely well, we had all 10 members of the shift – Engine 1, Rescue 1, Medic 2 – and we did have to call for an additional ambulance from Derry,” Roger said. “To expedite the ambulance, we closed I-93 with the state police, and the ambulance entered the southbound side of exit 4 and then traveled north to the accident in the southbound lane.”

Roger said there was great interagency cooperation with the state police.
