Students and staff at Matthew Thornton Elementary School celebrated Reading in Our School’s recently with the first Vocabulary Parade, an event planned by the Reading Department. Students were encouraged to pick a word and then make a costume using the word’s definition. From there, those participating paraded through the inside of the school and judges selected a winner at each grade. The winners were: First grade, Finley Hale, for the word “miscellaneous;” in second grade, Eric Ariza, won with her “feast” outfit; third grader, Gianna Marullo, chose “radiant;” in fourth grade, Lily Oliveira, took first with “lackadaisical;” and in fifth grade, Esyiah Nieves, won with the word “flotation.” Courtesy photo
